My new book, Soul of Christ: Meditations on a Timeless Prayer, is officially out! I don’t know if all our Pauline Books & Media Centers have received their copies, but I know it’s shipped out, and that you can already pick up a copy on our Pauline webstore.
It’s incredibly exciting–and scary!– to see a book that came from deep within my heart on the shelf, packed into a box, and online. When a book that I write comes out, I always feel a bit exposed. Which is uncomfortable but ultimately a good thing. Why is that a good thing? (As I’m preparing to speak about my book at our Pauline Book & Media Center in Toronto, it doesn’t feel like a good thing right now.)
- Because it means that the book really did come from my heart. If it was just an intellectual treatise, I wouldn’t feel uneasy about putting myself out there.
- Because any book I write is far from perfect and readers might be disappointed. (This is good for growing in humility and for entrusting the book into God’s hands. After all, this book was his idea, and whatever good comes from it is ultimately his work. All for God’s glory!)
- Because no book ever completely captures my vision of what I wanted to write about or how I wanted to write about it. Which means I’ll keep on writing. (The perennial insecurity of writers definitely fuels my writing some days.)
Whatever the inadequacies of my latest book, I am truly thrilled that it’s out and that I can share with others the beauty of the Anima Christi, the importance of Eucharistic prayer, and the difference that Eucharistic prayer can make in our lives–and ultimately in the world, if we allow Christ’s Eucharistic love to transform us. I also want to give a big thank you to all of the sisters who worked so hard to make this book both user-friendly and attractive. The layout alone makes me want to pick up this book and pray with it!
If you’d like to see the features of the book and download the introduction for free, you can visit the landing page for the book here. If you live in the Toronto, ON area, I’ll be visiting this week for a talk and book signing on Thursday, November 6th at 7 PM and Saturday, November 8th at 2 PM. (I’m also doing some fun stuff with Salt + Light TV and Salt + Light Radio.) I hope to see you there!
